Crafting with Kids and Teenagers

I love crafting with kids... but I also know the frustration that can come with it...

Little blue inky fingerprints in a pink ink pad!

Random cuts in perfectly good paper!

Smudges EVERYWHERE!

(Note here: Thanks to my beautiful niece for the pics... she never does any of those things, she just likes selfies with Aunty Emmie!)

I keep a selection of products which I am happy to share with the kids (scraps, older products), and then my secret stash which is totally off limits. Sales are a great way to start your kids creativity box without breaking the budget. Here are a few things that are currently on special-

CARDMAKING
Hip Hip Hooray Card Kit Originally $34.95 now just $17.48
This kit is awesome. It comes with its own stamps and ink, stickers, and 20 preprinted cards.

Patterned Paper- a whole heap of paper is now 50% off, which makes it ok for kids to chop wherever they please. You could go for small paper pads like this one (florals) or this one (geometric/natural) or even a 12" Color Collection pad (In Colors works out at 47c per doubled sided sheet)
Or you can go with the individual 12" paper collections. There are some great bright patterns kids would love in Confetti Celebration, Flashback, Maritime and Sweet Taffy (pictured below) These are all about 80c per double sided sheet.

Ink Pads on Special- These ink pads are the discontinued Stampin'Up! 2013 In Colors... which means they are CHEAP! Let the kids stamp with these, and keep your good ink pads for yourself (or sneak them into your stash... its up to you!) PS Next week I will be doing an awesome feature on using kids fingerprints on your cards! Make sure to check back!
Baked Brown Sugar (brown like a paper bag)
Coastal Cabana (a light sky blue)
Pistachio Pudding (a light green)
Strawberry Slush (bright pink)

Stamps- With supervision, most children are able to use their parents stamp sets without destroying them, however if is completely up to you whether you allow your kids to share, or provide them with their own.
I have found though, that the clear mount and photopolymer stamps do seem a little trickier for younger children, so you might want to check out some of the great wood mount stamps. There are way too many sets to list here, but this particular set caught my eye. It is currently on special for $26.96.

SCRAPBOOKING
For older kits who are looking to get into scrapbooking their memories the This and That selection is all 50% off and includes journals, washi tape and stickers. (The links and pictures here are examples of one range Retro Fresh, there are 3 different ranges)

If your kids are already hooked on scrapbooking, keep in mind that a lot of the Project Life range is on special. (e.g. Everyday Adventure cards and accessories) It is perfect for tweens and teens who can just add their journalling. Keep in mind though you will need to buy page protectors and an album.

I think its great when kids want to make stuff themselves, and they often come up with the most fantastic ideas. I love that Stampin'Up! make crafting a family event. Perhaps you could plan a crafternoon with your kids sometime soon.... just watch out for those inky fingers!

Love Em (and Miss H)
