Colouring In for adults

Have you noticed all of the adult-geared colouring in books in newsagents, supermarkets and deprtment stores. A phenomenon that seemed to appear mid last year with Joanna Basford's beautifulbooks has really exploded as a trend.

Although I love sketching, I didn't reallytry colouring until my husband got me a book while I was bedridden. I was instantly hooked. Whilst colouring a flower image one day it suddenly dawned on me- why not combine colouring in with Stampin'Up!
 

I stamped out a heap of flowers from the Beautiful Bunch set, using Black Archival ink on Thick Whisper White cardstock. Once the archival ink dries it wont smudge, making it perfect for colouring. Personally I like to use Derwent brand pencils. They are expensive but well worth the price, the leads give a smooth finish, it is easy to blend colours or adjust pressure to shade, and they are available in so many colours that it is easy to match them to cardstock.

You can get some really unique effects blending different colours.  The flowers above were inspired by the "fruit salad" frangipani tree we had in our yard in Broome.  I love how they look against kraft cardstock.
